LISA 2024-2025 Referees of the Year!

2024/25 FEMALE REFEREE OF THE YEAR- LACEY APPELMAN

Whether she’s refereeing or performing the role of an Assistant Referee, Lacey consistently brings a great attitude to the field.

Last season she played on the u16 T2 team that were Island champion’s and that also won the bronze medal at the provincial A cup. She also plays on the Premier and Select’s women’s team’s on permit.

As a referee, she has officiated:

– Various LISA youth games as the referee

– in Premier, Selects and women’s games as an A/R

– the LISA u14 girls B cup qualifier final as the referee

– the Provincial B Cup u14 boys game as the referee

– and various BCSPL games as a both a referee and AR

Like most new officials, Lacey started refereeing u9/10 games at 12 years of age, to last season refereeing the u15 girls gold medal game in the BC Soccer Provincial B Cup final…….a remarkable achievement !

In addition to having a great attitude, Lacey is focused; punctual; prepared; positive; and confident. All attributes a quality referee must possess.

RDO Al Moir continues to say: Soccer needs more female official’s and this referee certainly has the potential to take her officiating to whatever level she desires.

MALE REFEREE OF THE YEAR 2025- GREG TEUCHER

As an official Greg has a great presence on the field as he demonstrates strong body language, confidence and composure, all attributes that serve a referee well. He is an individual of high character, has a terrific attitude and is dedicated to his craft. He brings the element of professionalism to every game he officiates. He is punctual, prepared and consistently positive.

This season he officiated for both LISA and gained further experience refereeing at the BCSPL level. He officiated at the B Cup Provincials which he describes as an amazing experience as he was surrounded by referees and assessors who he could learn from and then take that information and apply those skills into the games he was officiating.

Going forward, he hopes to keep improving as a referee  and continue along the pathway to becoming a provincial referee and beyond.

Refereeing can sometimes be referred to as “the school of hard knocks” but he is serious about his craft as demonstrated by the fact that he see’s each game as an opportunity to improve. It’s an immense responsibility to officiate a match and he takes great pride in his work.

Canada soccer’s credo is that we “are not only looking for good referee’s but we are also looking for good people” and this years award winner certainly exemplifies that !
